10 WordPress Blogs You Should Be Reading

In case you haven’t picked up on it – I loves me some WordPress.  I think it’s one of the most monumental additions to the web developer’s toolbox to date.  Almost every project I’ve done in the last couple of years has been built on the WordPress engine, even if it didn’t need to be.

Needless to say, it’s good to know that I’m not the only fanatic out there.  There are some great blogs that are 100% dedicated to the WordPress cause.  It is through these sites that I keep up to date on the latest news, hacks, tweaks, and bugs in the rapidly evolving world of WordPress.

These are my ten favorite blogs on the subject of WordPress, did I miss any?

WPCandy

One of the best WordPress blogs out there.  It’s chock full of news, resources, theme and plugin reviews – the list goes on.  Not to mention it sports the best logo ever!

ThemeShaper

Ian Stewart’s thoughts and theories on making WordPress the best it can be.  Also the home of thematic – probably the prettiest theme framework out there.

Pro Blog Design

Okay, I’m cheating a little with this one.  Pro Blog Design isn’t exclusively “WordPress only”.  But I’m willing to bet that every article on this site is useful for any WordPress enthusiast.

We Love WP

A design gallery that only showcases sites built on WordPress.  It’s inspiring to see the multitude of ways people utilize this platform.

WPelements

A great blog that mainly focuses on theme development.   Be sure to check out the free and premium themes – some great work there.

Hack WordPress

This site is a great resource to any WordPress developer looking to update their bag of tricks.

ThemeLab

A site that showcases and reviews WordPress themes.  A lot of great themes are featured here, and best of all, they’re free!

The WordPress Podcast

Being the podcast fiend that I am I had to include this one.  This is a podcast that reports on the news in the WordPress community.  Though the updates aren’t that frequent, it’s proved to be a worthwhile subscription.

WordPress Garage

An awesome site mainly focused on the technical side of running and maintaining a WordPress blog.

WPscoop / WPvote

This one is a tie because I can’t pick a favorite.  These are two “social news” sites soley on the topic of WordPress.  Think digg.com for WordPress news.  Both are excellent resources and worth a visit.

  1. Hi Andrew,

Thanks for giving WPscoop a mention in your article as you can see we have placed a lot of time into the site in it’s first month’s of launch and so far we are pretty happy with the results, especially our new design.

With many more improvements and features currently in the pipeline and due to be rolled out in the coming months it’s going to be a busy time for us. Most of our improvements, features and additions will be posted on our blog in more detail as they happen to keep everyone up to speed on the project.

    Stuart

  2. Thanks for adding Pro Blog Design into your list! I’m really glad you enjoy it! 🙂

I guess it was cheating a little, but everything on the site is about blog design at least, so it does all apply to WordPress bloggers (Promise!). And any time there’s a tutorial, I always use WordPress. It’s a fantastic system! 😀

  3. Yeah, I’ll admit the frequency hasn’t been consistent thus far, but now that I’ve left the day job behind me and have begun to work for myself I’m hoping these will be coming out much more frequently.

In fact, Jonathan and I have set aside time to record on a weekly schedule, so I’m hoping to go weekly by the end of October.

  4. Thanks for including ThemeShaper in such fine company!

  18. Thanks for featuring WpVote! You should have put a screenshot of WpVote instead of WpScoop. May sound a bit pretentious but mine looks very good since its redesign and it’s totally built within WordPress :o)

  19. Great list, thanks a lot

  20. Hi Andrew

Great List! I actually really like your WordPress Blog. I have been working with a WordPress blog for a long time and I think WP is a terrific way to blog, build relationships, and get your content noticed. I am most attracted to WP Blogs that stray away from the norm (experiment with the theme). Of course content is always king, but a well designed WP blog (custom theme) is just icing on the cake.

    Keep up the great work

  31. Hi this is exactly the list I was looking for, except I was hoping it would be an open one where I could add my new WordPress site called WordPressOfTheDay.com, its not anywhere near as big as these proven sites, but it’s going to get close I hope.

    Thanks,
    Jamie

  32. Thanks for featuring WpVote! You should have put a screenshot of WpVote instead of WpScoop. May sound a bit pretentious but mine looks very good since its redesign and it’s totally built within WordPress

  33. Thanks for these. I think we need to move our blog from blogger to wordpress and these sites really show why. Maybe When I get time I’ll start one up, might inspire me to actually write some content too!

  34. Good observation, Ghettodefender!

And I think any American city would be just as risky, so that it was Chicago is beside the point, imo.

    Hmmm

  35. I’ve listened to the WordPress podcast, and it’s really useful. Glad it made the list.

  36. This is a great list. Most of the time, I don’t know where to look to find more designs for my blog, but now, I have 10 choices that I would probably have never known of before.
